Milwaukee’s first environmentally sustainable apartment building, Timber Lofts located at 300 W. Florida Street, uses specially treated lumber for its construction rather than steel and concrete. The 60 unit apartment building is already nearly 60% leased, with residents currently moving into their new apartments homes.
The building was constructed using the mass timber process, which layers wood pressed together to create the building’s frame. The result is a lower carbon footprint than conventional building material and is far more attractive than steel and concrete construction while engineered to be as strong as steel and to resist fire and earthquakes.
“We hope it sets us apart in the Marketplace,” says Ann Pieper Eisenbrown, the developer of the newly opened Walker’s Point apartment building.
